Culprit Westlife REPEAT OFFENDER!
Title Tonight
Year 2002
Written by Jörgen Elofsson, Steve Mac and Wayne Hector

Here they go again! Far ahead of the rest, Westlife are the ultimate repeat offenders. In this case, there's a slight upwards shift as the song moves into a brief guitar solo (which sounds a little like the solo from Michael Bolton's "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You", though perhaps I'm imagining this), but you have to wait a bit for the real shock-and-awe. It all gets quiet, and there's an excruciating pause before the precision-guided gear change hits with full force.

The change of key is not the only annoying aspect of this song. What I find equally infuriating is the piano opening, because every time I hear it, I get all excited, thinking it's going to be Nilsson's version of "Without You" – before my hopes are mercilessly dashed.

And then there's the lyrics, about how "I'm gonna make love to you tonight", and so on. The mental image conjured up by the line "I'm gonna be a part of you tonight" leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Actually, the mental image conjured up by Westlife leaving a sour taste in my mouth has itself left a sour taste in my mouth, so I think I will conclude this now.
