There's a circus-like quality to most of this song, yet there's nothing entertaining about this strangely sinister-sounding middle section. It's not even funny "like a clown" unless Patch Adams is your idea of funny. The reason for the musical darkness appears to be an attempt to evoke the feeling that "the happening's about to happen". And then it does, in true gearbox-crunching fashion...

This song was from the film of the same name, which I've not seen, but from most of the reviews I've read it sounds very much "of its time". I'm reasonably certain that it's not a movie about bad key changes, though it may feature some actual truck drivers.
Two decades later, of course, the foolhardy Diana Ross went on to give us the modulation-fuelled "Chain Reaction".
