When I first heard this song a few years back, it was on quite faintly over the speakers in a pub. Not recognising it, I initially thought, because of the syncopated horns, that it was the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. I was clearly incorrect; but now every time I hear it, I am massively amused by the idea that it could possibly be the Boston ska-punk-rockers, rather than that guy who used to be in Genesis.
Although painful, the modulation can at least be "justified" on lyrical grounds, as the first words after the new key has got bedded in (after Mr Collins has finished playing around with his kalimba) are to do with a new day dawning, cobwebs being brushed away and so forth. But it's still a remarkably blunt shift.
