Given the exceptionally large ratio of "the amount of airplay this song has ever had" to "the total amount of time in the world ever", I have kept this clip as short as possible. I seem to recall that when "I Try" came out, everyone was hailing Macy Gray as The Next Big Thing, but I don't remember anyone pointing out how wearily formulaic much of the song was. I guess it must be the distinctive quality of her voice (and the constant assertions that "she's a bit wacky") which caused this to be such a massive hit. But the truck driver's gear change is, for me, symbolic of a total lack of imagination. So there.
