Oh dear. What were Kiss reduced to by 1987? Nowadays they probably excuse this on the basis that "hey, it was the 1980s". Still, the gear changes in this song (there are two, one half-way through and the other at the end) are vintage.
There are no fancy disguises, no extravagant build-ups or agonising breaks, just the innocent pleasure of the following simple formula:
chorus + chorus + gear change + chorus + chorus = tragedy + time
I love the way, after the gear change has happened, the singer (I'm told it's Paul Stanley, rather than Gene Simmons) goes "Come on!" I have a mental image of him in the studio, cans atop his head, turning to the other guys in the band, shrugging his shoulders with a sheepish look in his eyes which says "hey it's not my fault everyone's doing it these days". Closely followed, of course, by a whoop of delight as the song launches into a monstrously widdly guitar solo.
