| Culprit | Kelly Clarkson REPEAT OFFENDER! |
| Title | Because Of You |
| Year | 2004 |
| Written by | Kelly Clarkson, David Hodges and Ben Moody |
| Submitted by | Bob from Scotland |
American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson apparently wrote this song when she was 16, and then enlisted the help of former Evanescence members Ben Moody (the one with the beard) and David Hodges (the one with the Christianity) to "polish it up". Whether this "polishing" involved shoehorning in a massive gear change is not clear: submitter Bob from Scotland notes that he once came across a live video of the song on the Rolling Stone magazine website which didn't feature the key change. Bob speculates: "Maybe a malicious musical director (or brave anti-gear change vigilante?) erased it from the piano score, or maybe Miss Clarkson is after all an Independent Woman who realised the extent of her/her producers' crimes in time for the show, but sadly not in time for the album release."
The song was nominated by others, too, notably Ben & Lisa, who described it as "particularly unashamed". But who doesn't secretly enjoy air-drumming the triplets which underline the Big Moment?
