I can't listen to this slap-bass fiesta without grinning broadly. I don't know what's funniest: the outrageous bass sound, the outrageous synth horns, or the outrageous gear changes – two of them, if you listen carefully. You have to feel sorry for the bass player, whose thumb must have been seriously aching by the end of the tune.

Update: I had originally given the artist name, tenuously, as just "Seinfeld", as I wasn't sure who performed it. However, I've since been informed by several readers that it is in fact Les Claypool of Primus. I must confess to having been initially sceptical about this claim, but I've had enough independent messages on the subject to regard it as plausible.

Another update (28 January 2007): Since I originally posted the Seinfeld theme back in 2003, I have had something like fifty messages confidently informing me about the following conflicting pieces of information:

• The bass is not a slap bass at all, but a synthesised bass sound played on a keyboard, using pitch bend.
• The bass is a real slap bass.
• The bass consists of samples of real slap bass sounds played on a keyboard.
• The bass is played by Les Claypool out of Primus.
• The bass is played by the composer, Jonathan Wolff.
• The bass is played by an uncredited session musician.
• And so on.

This article, sent to me by Joe M., seems to pretty conclusively rule out any involvement by Les Claypool and pretty conclusively rule in the sampling theory. Are you convinced now?
