Barry Manilow certainly ranks alongside Westlife in terms of serial gear-changing indeed, submitter Daniel was emphatically of the opinion that I should present Mr Manilow with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
In this case, it's a big, piano-driven ballad, resting on a bed of strings and oboes, even drawing on the services of a harp at one point (of the orchestral variety a harmonica would be just a little out of place here). Showing unusual restraint at first, he waits for over half the song before the now inevitable use of that slow, heavy snare which in Barry Manilow's world means "great passion". But then the kid gloves are off as, even more painfully than "I Write The Songs", everything slows into an enormous musical signpost directing the song into the breathtaking moment. Quite phenomenal.
I should also like to point out the line "I feel the change coming" which is sung at the start of this clip... Don't we all.
